Ice storm gives hundreds in Hamilton a dark Boxing Day
1,641 Hydro One customers expected to have power back by 11 p.m. Thursday
The damage of last weekend’s brutal ice storm continues to wreak havoc in Hamilton as hundreds of residents are spending Boxing Day without heat or electricity due to power outages.
As of 10 a.m. Thursday, 1,641 Hydro One customers in Hamilton's rural and suburban areas are without power.
The estimated restoration time is as late as 11 p.m. Thursday night, according to company spokesperson Tiziana Baccega Rosa.
Affected Hydro One customers are asked to call 1-800-434-1235 to report a power outage, fallen tree hazard or other emergency.
Those with access to the internet can check the power outage map on the company’s website for the latest updates. The map shows where crews are working and the estimated restoration time.
Customers with access to mobile phones can also download a free mobile app to check the status of restoration.
Meanwhile, Horizon Utilities has fewer than 100 customers without power, most involving trees on wires or damage to customers’ equipment, according to the company’s statement.
Crews are aiming to complete the restoration Thursday. There are no large district or area outages at the moment.
Horizon Utilities customers who do not have power are asked to call 1-866-458-1236 for more information.
