Two soldiers charged with separate sex assaults in Alberta
Captain at CFB Edmonton and corporal based in Quebec charged in unrelated cases
Two Canadian Forces soldiers have been charged in unrelated cases of sexual assault alleged to have happened in Edmonton and at CFB Wainwright, the Department of National Defence said Friday.
A captain with 1 Combat Engineer Regiment at CFB Edmonton faces one charge of sexual assault reported by a civilian at a private residence in Edmonton in January 2017.
The matter is moving forward in the civilian justice system with the Alberta Crown Prosecution Service, National Defence said.
In another case, a corporal based in Valcartier, Que. was charged Thursday with a reported sexual assault at Canadian Forces Base Wainwright, Alta. in 2007.
The charge relates to an alleged offence against another Forces member.

That matter is being investigated by the Canadian Forces National Investigation Service, a unit within the independent Canadian Forces Military Police Group.
"The Canadian Forces National Investigation Service investigates all allegations of sexual assault in a thorough and impartial manner to help ensure a respectful, healthy professional environment for all members," Lt.-Col. Francis Bolduc, commanding officer of the Canadian Forces National Investigation Service, said in a statement.
The accused in the Wainwright case could face a court martial, but the date and location have yet to be decided, the military said.
