A 16-year-old boy is facing multiple charges in connection with a pair of armed robberies in Silver Springs in northwest Calgary on Aug. 14.

Between midnight and 1 a.m., officers were called to two Circle K convenience stores along Silver Springs Boulevard N.W. for reports of armed robberies, Calgary police said in a release on Wednesday.

In each case, several culprits entered the store, went to the register, produced handguns and stole money and cigarettes before fleeing on foot, police said.

Officers found evidence at the scenes that led to search warrants being carried out at multiple residences on Aug. 25. Evidence consistent with the robberies was found during those searches, police said.

The accused teen was arrested and charged with two counts of robbery with a firearm, two counts of wearing a disguise to commit an indictable offence and two counts of breach of conditions.

Investigators believe three other teens ranging from 16 to 18 years old were also involved.

Police are asking for tips from the public as they try to identify the other culprits. They were wearing black hoodies, black pants and white runners on the night of the robberies.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at 403-266-1234 or contact Crime Stoppers.
