Animal lovers from across the country are volunteering to adopt a pet husky that killed a newborn baby in southern Alberta.

At least a dozen requests have come in, said Darryl Poburan with municipal enforcement for the city of Airdrie.

The owners of the dog have also received many messages from people wanting to take the animal, he said.

The two-day-old baby boy was bitten in the head Feb. 15 in the couple's home and died that night in hospital.

The husky is in quarantine and no decision has yet been made whether it will be destroyed.
