Police investigate after cat food laced with sulphuric acid found in Confederation Park

Calgary police are investigating after cat food laced with chemicals was found in a northwest park. 

Police said an unidentified man was seen placing cat food in and around the trees at the park, located in the 1000 block of 24th Avenue N.W., on three separate occasions this month. 

Investigators and the Calgary fire department's HAZMAT team said the food contained chemicals not typically found in cat food products.

The chemicals were identified as both sulphuric acid and phenyltoloxamine citrate, which police said would cause pain and possibly death to an animal should it ingest enough.

Confederation Park is visited frequently by families with young children and pets, which police said makes the incidents even more concerning.
