Spring street cleaning in Calgary to begin April 15
Move your vehicle for street sweeping equipment or risk a fine
The annual spring cleaning for Calgary's streets is set to begin on Monday.
Sweeping begins at 8 a.m. on April 15 and is set to continue Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. (except on statutory holidays) through the end of June.
"Spring clean-up helps reduce debris from entering our waterways, and keeps our neighbourhoods safe and clean for everyone," said City of Calgary Mobility planning and operations leader Adam Pawlak in a release.
"We thank you for removing vehicles off the street during the parking ban to help us complete this important work. It's also a good time to remind property owners that if you have front collection on sweeping day you should place your black, green and blue carts on your lawn or the grassy boulevard."
Calgary Parking will use its camera-equipped cars to enforce temporary parking bans and to make sure signage is accurate and visible to residents ahead of time, the city said.
"A good reminder to avoid a ticket is keep your vehicle off the road for the duration of the ban, as street sweepers will make multiple passes," said Calgary Parking Authority's Todd Sullivan. "We coordinate our enforcement with Mobility to ensure our camera cars and sweepers are working as closely as possible."
The city budgets about $7 million for the spring clean-up program.
