Edmonton police arrested Shawn Thomas Evjen, 46, during a vehicle stop on Wednesday afternoon, RCMP confirmed.
Evjen, who was considered armed and dangerous, scaled the perimeter fence at the medium-security prison on the night of Sept. 14, police said.
Evjen was serving a 24-year sentence for robbery, use of a firearm, assaulting a peace office, disguise with intent, possession of a weapon, and armed robbery. He started his sentence in 1985.
He was released in February, committed another armed robbery in Red Deer, and was returned to custody. He was convicted in that case but not sentenced.
