Body found by White Rock train tracks renews 'major safety issue'

A person found dead — apparently struck by a train — has renewed safety concerns about train tracks that intersect White Rock B.C.

'People have to cross those tracks to access the beaches so it’s a major safety issue'

The body of a person who appears to have been struck by a train found near White Rock B.C. is being investigated by the RCMP and is renewing safety concerns about the tracks that run through the community.

Surrey City councillor Judy Villeneuve said the tracks have long been a safety issue.

"The tracks that go through White Rock and Crescent Beach are a danger to the public," she said.

"People have to cross those tracks to access the beaches so it's a major safety issue."

Police have released no information about the person, who they say appeared to have died after being struck by a train.

The body was found June 10 just before noon on the railway line located south of Bay Street.

The RCMP, CN Police and the B.C. Coroner's office are investigating and ask any witnesses to get in touch.

Deaths along the train tracks that cut off the beach area are a big concern, said Surrey City Councillor Judy Villeneuve. (CBC)
