Two people are dead after a vehicle was discovered in Harrison Lake on Sunday, according to police.

Officers were alerted to what was believed to be a capsized boat in the lake, which is about 100 kilometres east of Vancouver, around 10 a.m. PT.

Agassiz RCMP and members of Kent Harrison Search and Rescue (KHSAR) responded to the area and discovered a small SUV partially submerged in the water.

Police said there were two bodies inside the vehicle. Officers did not specify their gender or age.

Officials believe the SUV fell from a forest service road, down a 60-metre embankment before landing in the lake. (Shane MacKichan)

Marvin Anderson, KHSAR president, said one woman was pulled from the water and taken to hospital with minor injuries. He said she was out of the vehicle when crews arrived.

RCMP said it appears the vehicle could have been in the water for as long as 10 hours. It is not clear how the survivor escaped the car.

Witnesses said they saw marks on a forest service road along the lake which appear to show where the SUV plummeted down an embankment and into the lake. Anderson said the fall would have been about 60 metres.

The vehicle remains in the water. An RCMP dive team planned to return to the site Monday.
