Charges have been approved against an RCMP officer involved in a shooting in Cranbrook, B.C., last year.
Const. Richard Drought is charged with intentionally discharging a firearm into a motor vehicle, knowing another person was inside. He is also charged with intentionally discharging a firearm while being reckless as to the life or safety of another person.
Drought is alleged to have fired at least one shot in October 2012 as he pursued an SUV believed to have been involved in a carjacking.
A man in the suspect vehicle was injured, but he survived.
The province's Independent Investigations Office was called in to investigate.
This is the first IIO case resulting in charges laid against an officer.
