Police find missing Surrey woman's vehicle

Police said Monday they have found the vehicle belonging to a Surrey, B.C., woman who has been missing for five days.

Manjit Phangali, 30, was last seen on Oct. 18. Her silver 2001 Honda Accord was found in the Lower Mainland, Surrey RCMP said.

Police did not give any more details about the discovery, which occurred on the same day relatives of Phangali held an emotional news conference.

"She has a three-and-a-half year-old daughter who misses her like crazy and who needs her and is waiting for her at home," said Jasmine Bhambra, her sister. "She is pregnant. She is four months pregnant. This is completely out of character for her."

A teacher at North Ridge Elementary School, Phangali was last seen leaving her home around 6:30 p.m. for a prenatal class.

Her husband, Mukhtiar Panghali, has admitted to waiting over 24 hours before reporting her missing. Phangali was very emotional at the news conference, and struggled to fight back tears.

Manjit Phangali is described as Indo-Canadian,fivefoot eightand 135 pounds. Anyone with information on her whereabouts is asked to call the Surrey Major Crimes unit at (604) 599-0502.
