A new affordable rental housing complex for people with low to moderate incomes and people with disabilities officially opened in Surrey, today, announced BC Housing.

Chorus Apartments consists of 71 new units.

The Peninsula Estates Housing Society, a sister organization to the Semiahmoo Housing Society, will manage and operate the new housing development.

"From the very beginning, we have followed the lead of people who have developmental disabilities and their families," said Doug Tennant, executive director of Semiahmoo Housing Society, in a statement.

"This apartment is a reality because they told us 13 years ago that they wanted to live in their own home, in their community, close to their friends, families and employers."

The total cost of the project is about $15.4 million.

According to BC Housing, rent ranges from $725 per month for a studio apartment, up to $1,375 for a three bedroom unit.
