Man shot following alleged carjacking near Creston
Independent Investigations Office called into investigate RCMP shooting
One man is recovering in hospital and the B.C.'s civilian police watchdog is investigating after a police shooting near Cranbrook in the province's southern Interior.
A Cranbrook RCMP officer fired at least one shot last night as he stopped an SUV believed to have been involved in a car jacking earlier in the day in the Creston-area.
Police say a man in the suspect vehicle was hit, but is expected to pull through, while a woman in the car was not hurt.
The matter has now been turned over to B.C.'s Independent Investigations Office — the third case for the newly launched agency tasked with probing police-related incidents involving death or serious harm.
Earlier, police indicated the shooting took place in Yahk, but later confirmed it was near Cranbrook.
