Members of the RCMP's major crimes unit spent the weekend on B.C.'s Cortes Island, at the northern end of Georgia Strait, investigating a suspicious death.

Mounties were called early Friday morning to a home on the 25-kilometre long Gulf Island, east of Campbell River, between Vancouver Island and the mainland.

The body of a 60-year-old man was found in the home.

Investigators say the cause of death is not yet known but the incident is considered suspicious and foul play is suspected.

An autopsy is expected to be conducted early this week.

The man's name has not yet been released.
