A teenager has been charged with the second-degree murder of a Burnaby, B.C., man killed more than a year and half ago.

Jordan Braun, 19, has been charged in connection to the death of Elmer Libertino, 34, who was found lying in a pool of blood on a Burnaby street in April 2015.

According to a statement from the B.C. RCMP's Integrated Homicide Investigation Unit (IHIT), police do not believe Braun and Libertino were known to each other.

In a statement, Libertino's family thanked police and mourned their loss.

"He came to Canada with a great dream for himself, for his loving wife, and for his three smart and beautiful kids, but he was taken away so soon," the statement read. "He is dearly missed every day."

Braun is in police custody and is set to appear in court on Nov. 30.
