Dog and piglet are the best of friends
Duke, the German Shepherd adopted runt of the litter, Sophie
A five-year-old German Shepherd dog may just have saved this little piglet's bacon.
Piglet Sophie — as she has been named — was struggling to survive after being born at Wild Moon Organics in Armstrong, B.C., so the farm owners brought her into the family home to be nursed back to health.
“My son decided that he was going to try and help her make it," Richard Quiring told Castanet, "and proceeded to look after her and nurse her back to vitality.”
What they didn't expect, was that the family's pet dog Duke would adopt her.
"Sophie is thriving now and Duke (our German Shepherd) is taking good care of her," a post on the company's Facebook page states.
Though they share a kennel right now, the Berkshire piglet will likely outgrow her canine pal very soon.
Sophie is now one of the family, and will be kept for breeding, not the farm's "pork program".
