B.C. teen who got 4 organs at once dies

A B.C. teenager who received four organs at once during a 2006transplant operationdied Saturday.

Gairett MacIver, 19,died at Vancouver General Hospital after a bout of pneumonia.

The Prince George resident received national mediaattention when he underwent afour-organ transplant at Toronto General Hospital in August 2006. During the surgery, he received a new liver, pancreas, stomach and bowel, andalso had his spleen and gall bladder removed.

MacIversuffered from a rare condition where blood vessels in his bowels would not only bleed, but also damage his other organs.

His health problems first occurred in 2001 when he began to suffer from a series of broken legs.
