U.S. same-day visits to Canada 'lowest on record': Statistics Canada
Same-day visits by Americans driving to Canada fell to their lowest level on record in August, Statistics Canada reported Wednesday.
Stats Can blamed the drop on concerns about border delays because of increased security. Seasonally adjusted, more than 1.3 million Americans made same-day cross-border car trips in August. That's a drop of 3.3 per cent from July.
The number of American visitors staying overnight in Canada also fell â down 3.9 per cent from July to 1.23 million.
But the concern about border delays did not appear to bother Canadian visitors to the United States. Travel figures show that the number of Canadian visitors to the U.S. actually rose 0.1 per cent from July to August, with slight increases in same-day (+0.1 per cent) and overnight trips (+1.3 per cent).
Stats Can noted that the Canadian dollar in August was up for the third month in a row, making American goods and services cheaper for Canadian visitors.
