As winner of CBC Music's 2019 Searchlight contest, Shopé had the honour of being the opening act at the 2019 CBC Music Festival's q stage.
A Nigerian–Canadian hip-hop artist from Toronto, Shopé weaves tales of poverty, determination and love into his music, while artfully incorporating elements of Afro-pop and R&B.
Shopé means "make joy" in his native Nigerian, and the crowd at Toronto's Echo Beach was feeling it during his performance on the q stage. He was joined by Adam Josh Pondang (guitar), Kirk Grange (keyboard), Simon Siala (bass) and Sean Lorcan Samuels (drums). Watch their full set, below.
