On Sept. 17 at the Chan Centre for the Performing Arts in Vancouver, a collection of Indigenous speakers, artists, musicians and dancers came together to share in creativity, brilliance, culture and community.

Reclaimed Presents: ʔəm̓ i ce:p xʷiwəl (Come Toward the Fire) was inspired by the Musqueam tradition of gathering by a fire in the big house in Coast Salish Territory to share stories and celebrate with guests. The special will air on Friday, Sept. 30, at 5 p.m. (5:30 NT) on CBC-TV and CBC Gem, where audiences across the country can witness the magic.

The event was hosted by Musqueam creator, actor and playwright Quelemia Sparrow. The group of performers was curated by Jarrett Martineau, host of CBC Music's Reclaimed, and includes Haida singer Carsen Gray, Inuit throat-singing duo PIQSIQ, Afro-Indigenous singer-songwriter Julian Taylor, Musqueam hip-hop artist Christie Lee,  Squamish hip-hop artist Lady Sinncere, Lil'wat musician and composer Russell Wallace and more.
