It has been a particularly tough couple of weeks for classical musicians as the COVID-19 pandemic has forced companies like the Calgary Philharmonic and Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra to temporarily lay off their orchestra, conductors and other full-time staff.
To brighten the mood, members of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra banded together on Sunday, March 22 to deliver a special performance to music lovers quarantined at home.
The TSO's principal double bass player, Jeff Beecher, helped round up a virtual orchestra to perform the final three sections of the suite from Aaron Copland's Appalachian Spring. Each member played their respective parts and Beecher later edited it all together.
