Watch 12 celebrities perform with their musical kids in isolation

Not all children follow in the footsteps of their parents, but some kids of famous musicians and actors are getting a chance to show off their talents right now, in this time of self-isolation.

Whether it's forming a band with their children or just enlisting them to harmonize on a song, celebrities are introducing us to the next generation of rock stars in these intimate home performances.

Billie Joe Armstrong 

The Green Day frontman has been posting weekly performances as part of his No Fun Mondays series, but in a special appearance on The Late Late Show With James Corden, Armstrong enlisted his sons Jakob and Joey to help out on a cover of Tommy James and the Shondells' "I Think We're Alone Now." Both of Armstrong's sons have followed in their dad's footsteps by pursuing music: Jakob released his debut EP in 2015 and Joey drums in the punk band SWMRS.

Sarah McLachlan 

Sarah McLachlan and her 18-year-old daughter India Ann recently posted a touching performance of the singer-songwriter's "Angel" to pay tribute to the victims of the Nova Scotia mass shooting. "While I know that no words can take away the pain," McLachlan wrote in the caption of her Facebook post, "I am sending love and peace to all." 

Sam Roberts

The Canadian musician has formed a new band at home called the Isolation Jubilation Sensation. Joined by his three young kids, one on piano and two on violins, Roberts has led the group in performing the Sam Roberts Band single "We're All in This Together," both on YouTube and for the recent Stronger Together, Tous ensemble TV special.

Randy Bachman 

Even though Tal Bachman is an established artist on his own, it's rare to see him and his dad, Randy, play together. Last month, Randy and Tal got together for a special live stream where the two jammed together in Randy's studio for an hour.  

Melissa Etheridge 

Melissa Etheridge's 23-year-old daughter, Bailey, made an appearance on her mother's #StayHome mini-concert series recently where the two covered Coldplay's "Fix You." According to Melissa, they had previously performed the same song at Bailey's high school talent show: "We rocked it!" 

Andrea Bocelli 

To help promote the Andrea Bocelli Foundation, which launched an emergency fund for COVID-19 medical efforts in Italy, the opera star appeared on The Late Late Show With James Corden last week with his son Matteo to perform their 2018 collaboration, "Fall on Me." 

Annie Lennox 

For her performance on the Lady Gaga-organized special, One World: Together at Home, Annie Lennox collaborated with her daughter, Lola, on the Eurythmics song "There Must be an Angel." Earlier this year, Lola released her debut single, "In the Wild."

Curt Smith 

While in isolation, Tears For Fears singer Curt Smith teamed up with his eldest daughter, Diva, to perform an acoustic rendition of the band's 1982 hit, "Mad World," in their Los Angeles home.  

Courtney Cox 

Friends star Courtney Cox apparently only took up piano lessons a few years ago, but she's been showing off her musical skills lately with her daughter Coco singing along. Together, they performed the Hamilton song "Burn," first on Ellen and later on Cox's Instagram account because she was admittedly "pretty embarrassed" by their attempt on Ellen. "We had to redeem ourselves," she added in her caption.

Ethan Hawke 

Four-time Oscar nominee Ethan Hawke has played musicians in movies before but has never transitioned into a real-life songwriter like his daughter Maya whose debut album is set to drop later this year. While isolating at home together, Ethan stepped in as the cameraman and director of her latest performance video for her song, "Coverage." 

Eva Mendes 

Actors Eva Mendes and Ryan Gosling's three-year-old daughter may not be able to play full songs just yet, but Mendes did capture a clip of her youngest attempting to play along to a Cuban record. Perhaps she'll grow up and play music just like her father did as the leader of the indie band, Dead Man's Bones. 

Tyler Hubbard

Florida Georgia Line singer Tyler Hubbard's daughter Olivia is another young one who hasn't developed her musical skills just yet but judging by the way she follows her father's instructions, we can see a bright future in music for her.
