Shawn Mendes joins growing list of celebrities donating to Australian wildfire relief
The Canadian pop star and his recently launched foundation will pledge donations to 3 organizations
In the past week, a number of high-profile celebrities have stepped up to donate money and raise awareness for the current wildfires across Australia. Chris Hemsworth, Nicole Kidman, Keith Urban and Pink are just some of the famous names who are supporting the relief efforts. Now, Canadian pop star Shawn Mendes has joined that list.
In an Instagram post featuring a photo of Mendes feeding a kangaroo, the singer wrote: "Every time I've been to Australia I've fallen more and more in love with the people and wildlife."
He added that he and the Shawn Mendes Foundation will be making donations to the Australian Red Cross Disaster Relief and Recovery Fund, the NSW Rural Fire Service and the South Australian Country Fire Service. Included in his post was a second photo that detailed more places fans can donate, such as the SA Country Fire Service, Vic Country Fire Authority and more.
Mendes concluded his post by reminding his followers: "Every donation matters."
Last August, Mendes launched the Shawn Mendes Foundation, which aimed to support youth-related causes including "realms of children's healthcare, sustainability, mental health, wellness, human rights, anti-bullying, education and more."
"For a long time, I've wanted to find a way to amplify the causes that my fans and I care deeply about, and to help make the voices of our generation heard," he said in a press release at the time. "My goal in launching the foundation is to work alongside my fans, and do everything that I can to help provide them with a platform that inspires positive change, and empowers young change-makers."
