Martin Scorsese to direct Robbie Robertson tribute concert film
The show will include performances by Eric Clapton, Allison Russell, Elvis Costello, Noah Kahan and more
Good news for anyone who can't catch the Robbie Robertson tribute concert on Oct. 17 in California: Martin Scorsese will be directing the filming of the live event for a future wide release, Variety reports.
The concert, "Life Is a Carnival: A Musical Celebration of Robbie Robertson," will include performances by Eric Clapton, Elvis Costello, Noah Kahan, Daniel Lanois, Allison Russell, Taj Mahal, Lucinda Williams, Van Morrison, Margo Price, Robert Randolph, Mavis Staples and many more. They'll be performing a range of Robertson's beloved songs, from his solo repertoire and his work with the Band. The show will take place at the famed Kia Forum venue in Inglewood, Calif.
Scorsese is one of the executive producers of the concert, and a dear friend of the late rock and roll star. The two have a long history of collaborations: Robertson scored a number of the American director's well-known films, such as Raging Bull and The Irishman, and Scorsese directed a 1978 film about the Band's farewell show, The Last Waltz.
Robertson died in 2023 after a long battle with prostate cancer. He was a founding member of Canadian-American rock group, the Band and is widely regarded as one the greatest Canadian songwriters, penning such hits as "The Weight" and "The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down."
