How to listen to CBC Music's classical Road to the Junos concert
Hear performances from some of Halifax’s brightest rising stars
To prepare for the 53rd Juno Awards, taking place in Halifax on March 24, CBC Music presented Road to the Junos, a concert series in the host city to celebrate local talent.
A highlight of that series was a recital of classical music at the Scotia Festival's Peggy Corkum Music Room.
If you weren't in Halifax to attend in person (or even if you were, and want to relisten), you can hear the full concert on Sunday, March 17, on CBC Music's In Concert with Paolo Pietropaolo. The program airs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., and you can stream it in five time zones via CBC Listen.
The concert includes performances by three young musicians recently featured in CBC Music's annual classical "30 under 30" list: cellist/composer India Gailey and pianists Devin Huang and Lala Lee. You'll also hear Halifax musicians Ellen Gibling and Jennifer King.
"I'm so excited to be able to share these performances on the national airwaves," says Pietropaolo. "Each of these young Haligonian musicians deserves a national platform — and more. And they cover a lot of ground, too, from first-class interpretations of Chopin and Liszt on the piano by Devin and Lala, to the mesmerizing sound worlds explored by India and Ellen."
Here's the program:
Devin Huang (pianist)
Ludwig van Beethoven: Sonata No. 23 in F Minor ("Appassionata"), Op. 57, III: Allegro ma non troppo.
Maurice Ravel: Gaspard de la Nuit, I: "Ondine."
Frédéric Chopin: Étude in C-sharp Minor, Op. 10, No. 4.
India Gailey (cellist), Ellen Gibling (harpist) and Jennifer King (pianist)
