The Juno Awards announce new rap, Indigenous and dance categories for 2022
Rap recording of the year will now be split into single and album
The Juno Awards will have an even longer list of winners next year thanks to the addition of five new categories.
Starting in 2022, rap recording of the year will be split into two new awards: rap album/EP of the year and rap single of the year. Last night, at the opening night gala, the rap recording of the year award went to Tobi for his 2020 album, Elements Vol. 1.

The Indigenous artist or group of the year will also be broken into two: contemporary Indigenous artist or group of the year, and traditional Indigenous artist or group of the year. This year's winner for Indigenous artist or group of the year is Leela Gilday for her album, North Star Calling. This decision to expand the category is similar to this year's new R&B/soul categories, which were also divided into traditional and contemporary recording of the year.
