Juno 365 session: the Beaches cover Loverboy's 'Turn me Loose'
CBC Music presents a series of videos celebrating past Juno winners
"We are rooted in classic rock, and the '80s is something that we've always really kind of loved and been passionate about," says the Beaches' guitarist Kylie Miller on the band's decision to cover Loverboy's "Turn me Loose" for their Juno 365 session. "We decided to kind of go out of our comfort zone and channel this like '80s shred metal rock."
In the lead-up to the 2018 Juno Awards, we've been inviting some of today's hottest Canadian acts to cover a past winner in the single of the year category. "Turn me Loose" earned Loverboy the Juno for single of the year in 1982.
"When we were thinking about how we were going to approach covering this song, we decided to keep it as close to the original as we could, even hitting the super corny high note, and doing the solos," explains bassist and lead vocalist Jordan Miller.
The band members committed not only to the music, but also to the visuals of this early '80s classic. "We got to have fun with some outfits, too," adds drummer Eliza Enman-McDaniel, "So we got to dress up, which was very fun."
