Grimes wants to sell you a 'fraction of her soul' in new art exhibition
The Canadian musician is putting drawings, prints, photographs, and conceptual pieces up for sale
You can now purchase a part of Grimes' soul.
The Canadian musician made her fine art debut this week with two online exhibitions titled Selling Out which can be viewed at Gallery Platform Los Angeles (May 28 - June 3) and Maccarone Los Angeles (May 28 - Aug. 31). She will be selling drawings, prints, photographs, and conceptual pieces including a "fraction of her soul," as a Maccarone press release states.
"Selling Out is executed as a contract in which Grimes sells a fraction of her soul, formalizing the idea that every time an artist sells a piece of their art, part of the soul is sold with it," the press release explained. "The purchaser will enter into a contractual agreement that outlines the terms of ownership and ultimately the connection to the joy of artistic expression."
Grimes is settling for a "best offer" for her soul, Bloomberg notes, because, as she asked the publication, rhetorically, "With the current state of the world, do you want to put something up for $10 million?"
In February, Grimes released her fifth studio album, Miss Anthropocene. She has created most of her album artwork over the years and has co-directed her own music videos. In the interview with Bloomberg, she says, "I made art 10, 12 years before I ever touched a keyboard. I see myself as a visual artist first and foremost, and I've always felt strange that people know me for music."
