We're only halfway through 2022, but Luna Li is already having an outstanding year. In February, the Toronto act — a project fronted by Hannah Bussiere Kim — released its debut album, Duality, to critical acclaim. Pitchfork called it "a testament to [Kim's] pop songwriting smarts"; NPR said it "sounds like a welcome from another universe" and NME called it "spellbinding indie-rock." And to cap it all off, Duality was longlisted for the 2022 Polaris Music Prize this week.

Back in April, Luna Li celebrated the release of Duality at Toronto's Axis Club, where the band performed to its biggest hometown crowd yet. Since Luna Li first started gaining attention during the pandemic, Kim reflects on the joy of finally being able to share her music with fans in-person: "It's really, really great to have an audience who's there to give me energy. There's just definitely a special magic in the room when there's a whole crowd of people that all came together and have the power of music to connect them."

Watch the full concert above, recorded as part of CBC Music Live, a digital series featuring exclusive concert experiences from some of Canada's hottest artists. This season we're going into venues and packed houses to celebrate live music, and the unmistakable energy of being shoulder to shoulder with music fans — something we've been really missing for a while.
