Jenn Grant, Morgan Toney, the East Pointers lead 2024 East Coast Music Award winners

The 2024 East Coast Music Awards were held in Charlottetown this week, and more than 40 awards were given out, with the East Pointers leading the winners with three awards, and Jenn Grant, Morgan Toney and Tim Baker taking home two apiece.

P.E.I.'s the East Pointers won for group, contemporary roots and pop recording of the year, while P.E.I.-born and Halifax-based Grant nabbed songwriter and song of the year (for "Judy," off her 2023 album Champagne Problems). Wagmatcook First Nation's Toney won for Indigenous artist and roots/traditional recording of the year, and Newfoundland's Tim Baker won for solo and folk recording.

Rising alt-pop artist Maggie Andrew, who was the 2024 Juno Wavemakers Ambassador for Halifax, won for African Canadian artist of the year, and Halifax pop duo Neon Dreams took home album of the year for Love Child Baby Dolphin. New Brunswick hip-hop group City Natives, who were the 2024 Juno Wavemakers Ambassador for Fredericton, took home rap/hip-hop recording of the year. 

The 36th annual awards show was co-hosted by CBC Music's Damhnait Doyle and singer-songwriter Rose Cousins, and included performances by winners the East Pointers, Toney, Andrew, Kayo, Grant and more.
