The brazen theft of the sign displaying the namesake of Labatt Park has prompted the brewery to offer a reward for its return.
Labatt Park has been a London landmark at 25 Wilson Avenue since 1877. Originally called Tecumseh Park, it holds the Guinness World Record for the oldest baseball diamond in the world.
Police said the sign that was bolted to the wrought iron fence was taken on Nov. 17. This week, Labatt Brewery offered a $2,000 reward to anyone who can help bring the sign back or provide information that leads to its return.
"Offering a reward for its return is our way of acknowledging this connection and encouraging its recovery, as it's more than just a sign to us. It's a part of our shared history with London," wrote company spokesperson Hannah Love in an email.
She said Labatt has been brewing beer in the city for 175 years, and the park holds significant sentimental and historic value. Love said if the sign is not returned, it will eventually be replaced.
Anyone with information is asked to reach out Labatt through this online form(external link) or through their social media channels.
