Manitobans will learn in a month where their government intends to spend its money.
Premier Wab Kinew, speaking at the Economic Club of Canada in Toronto as part of a presentation to encourage investment in Manitoba, announced Monday his government's provincial budget will be revealed on April 2.
In a news release, the government said the budget would bring quality health care closer to home and increase capacity and staffing within the system. It also said new measures would be introduced to lower costs for Manitobans and grow the province's "diversified low-carbon" economy.
"As a province, we have so many opportunities to grow our economy and repair the services Manitobans need," Kinew said in the release.
"It's going to take a balanced approach. With our first budget, we're taking responsible steps to deliver on our commitments to rebuild health care in our province, lower costs for families, make our communities safer and create good jobs."
The NDP came to power last October after defeating the Progressive Conservative Party, which had formed government since 2016.
The PC's 2023 budget, released on March 7, was a total of $22 billion — an increase of nearly $2 billion from 2022.
