For My Junos Moment, the singer reflects on her 2007 hosting gig and what she has planned for 2024
Nelly Furtado first hosted the 2007 Juno Awards in Saskatoon, and she says it "took a few years off of my life." But that didn't stop her from saying yes again when she was asked to host this year's awards, being held in Halifax on March 24.
To mark the occasion, CBC Music asked the singer and host to rewatch some of the most memorable moments from her 2007 gig in which she, among other things, flew down from the rafters dressed like a bird, spoofed her hit song "Promiscuous" and channelled a Portuguese aunt — "a total maneater," she says — in a skit with Michael Bublé that left him in a little bit of pain.
"I guess I just … wanted to express my unique sense of humour as best as I could," she says with a laugh. "I don't know about my comedic timing, to be honest. I tried my best."
For this year, she says she's leaving the comedy to the professionals and focusing on what she knows best. "I want to make it more about the music and the party and the energy and just have a really good time."
The trick is to just "detach and try your best," she says, adding: "Don't troll me. Don't hate on me. Thank you."

Host Nelly Furtado is bringing the party to the 2024 Juno Awards on Sunday, March 24, at 8 p.m ET. Tune in on CBC-TV, CBC Gem, CBC Radio One, CBC Music and CBC Listen, and stream globally on cbcmusic.ca/junos.
