A 43-year-old man was shot by a police officer at a Burlington, Ont., apartment complex on Tuesday evening, says the Special Investigations Unit (SIU).
Halton police responded to a call near Dynes Road and Prospect Street, according to the SIU. They found a man with a firearm.
"There was an interaction" and an officer shot the man, says the SIU. The man was arrested and transported by ambulance to the hospital.
Police said on Twitter Tuesday evening there was heavy police presence in the area, that the situation was "contained" and that there was "no known imminent threat to public safety."
Three SIU investigators and a forensic investigator have taken over the case as it is mandated to do for incidents involving police that result in death or serious injury.
