A 17-year-old teen&nbsp;was&nbsp;leaving a concert in downtown Winnipeg on Saturday&nbsp;when he came across a fight and tried to step in to stop it, police say.

Instead, the teen&nbsp;was&nbsp;seriously beaten and left&nbsp;in critical condition before being rushed to hospital, where he is now listed in guarded condition, according to a Monday news release from the police service.

Officers were called around 10:30 p.m. to Fort Street and Graham Avenue by witnesses, some of whom were providing first aid to the injured teen when police arrived.

According to investigators, the teen did not know the people involved in the fight that he tried to stop.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Major Crimes Unit at 204-6219 or leave an anonymous tip with Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477).

Mounties have started interviewing survivors of deadly southwestern Manitoba crash

Manitoba RCMP say they've started doing interviews with some of the survivors of a crash near Carberry, Man., that killed 15 people last week, when a bus taking a group of seniors to a casino was hit by a semi-trailer truck at a highway intersection.

John Proven, a witness to the aftermath of the crash, said he saw a burning vehicle in a ditch and a semi-trailer truck nearby with a burned front end just after noon Thursday, and called what he saw 'shocking.'

Conservatives, Liberals hold on to seats in Manitoba federal byelections

Conservative Branden Leslie had almost 65 per cent of the vote in Portage-Lisgar with 247 of 248 polls reporting, while Liberal Ben Carr took more than 55 per cent of the votes in Winnipeg South Centre with all polls reporting, say unofficial results from Elections Canada.
