Snotty Nose Rez Kids, the Polaris-nominated hip-hop duo made up of Haisla rappers Quinton "Yung Trybez" Nyce and Darren "Young D" Metz, recently joined CBC Music in studio to talk about some of their favourite, most life-changing music. Watch above.
Originally from Kitamaat Village, B.C., and currently based in Vancouver, they share a deep love for early aughts hip-hop. From Afroman's "Colt 45" to Earthgang's "Up," the rappers got candid and in their feelings about the songs they selected, reflecting on some of the good times and shared experiences that bonded them.
Music certainly unlocked a passion within both artists and granted them permission to make their own. On Mac Miller's "Knock Knock," Yung Trybez reflects, "it changed our life in a way where it made it OK for anybody to make rap music, you know what I mean?"
For his part, Young D says Lil Wayne "has been such a huge influence on our careers and on our lives," especially his song "Tie my Hands," which he says "hits so deep on so many levels."
Snotty Nose Rez Kids recently released their fifth studio album, I'm Good, HBU, and are set to start a U.S. tour this March.

Caption: Haisla hip-hop duo Snotty Nose Rez Kids have quickly become one of the country's most prolific groups, releasing five albums and one EP over the past five years. In that time, they've earned two Juno Award nominations and have landed on the Polaris Music Prize short list twice. Last December, Young D and Yung Trybez released I'm Good, HBU?, their latest full-length of energetic anthems that find Snotty Nose Rez Kids in a more celebratory mood compared to its darker predecessor, Life After. To celebrate its release, the duo performed to a packed and excited crowd at Toronto's Velvet Underground.
