Little Wolf is the story of a young Indigenous girl whose family moves to the big city. The book is the first in a trilogy written by Heiltsuk author Teoni Spathelfer and illustrated by Natassia Davies, of Coast Salish ancestry.
In the urban landscape, a young Indigenous girl struggles to find connections to her culture and the land, encountering bullies and feelings of isolation. But her mother helps her stay connected to their culture by signing them up for beading and dance classes. And slowly, the young girl discovers that there is wildlife everywhere, even in the big city.
Little Wolf is an inspiring tale that combines traditional and contemporary Indigenous themes and artwork. It is a strong addition to a growing canon of Indigenous literature for young readers in Canada. (From Heritage House)
