Un lien familial by Nadine Bismuth, defended by France D'Amour, has won Combat national des livres 2020 after five days of debate on Radio-Canada.
Bismuth's novel follows a 40-year-old kitchen designer named Magalie, who maintains a mutually deceptive romance with her partner Mathieu. Unexpected circumstances lead her to Guillaume, a policeman and single father.
The "novel of modern love" will be published in English under the title A Family Affair in August 2020.
D'Amour is an acclaimed singer-songwriter whose albums include D'amour et Rock'n'roll, Bubble bath & Champagne, volume 1&2 and Animal.
Each of the Combat national des livres contenders represented different regions of Canada.
D'Amour won as the representative of Quebec, knocking out Ontario's Dominique Demers defending La mauvaise mère by Marguerite Andersen in the final round.
Combat national des livres was moderated by Marie-Louise Arsenault, the host of Radio-Canada's Plus on est de fous, plus on lit!
The show took place May 4-8, 2020. The winner was decided by public vote.
