The Sunday evening event was led by Martha Wainwright
On Sunday night, Montreal festival Pop Montreal organized a balcony sing-along of local legend Leonard Cohen's song, "So Long, Marianne."
Led by singer-songwriter Martha Wainwright, Montrealers were invited to go out to their balconies, porches and rooftops to perform songs, which also included Richard Desjardin's "Le coeur est un oiseau."
The event, which was live streamed on Facebook Live, kicked off with the classic Cohen ballad and its first lyric: "Come over to the window, my little darling." Watch the full performance below.
Around the world, many people are taking to their balconies to give the gift of music to others. In Naples, Italy, neighbours started a sing-along. In Barcelona, Spain, a man serenaded his neighbourhood with Celine Dion's "My Heart Will Go On." And in Toronto, CBC Music's very own Julie Nesrallah gave a beautiful performance of "O Sole Mio" from her own balcony.
