The CBC children's show Scout & The Gumboot Kids(external link) is being adapted into a series of picture books for readers aged 3 to 7 years old.
Mice friends Scout and Daisy embark on a series of nature-related adventures, bringing clues back to the library for investigation.
There are four books so far:
  • The Case of the Vanishing Caterpillar
  • The Case of the Story Rock
  • The Case of the Wooden Timekeeper
  • The Case of the Growing Bird Feeder
The books will be authored by show creators Eric Hogan and Tara Hungerford, a husband-and-wife team from Vancouver.
"We created the Gumboot Kids with the hope that families would become inspired to go out and explore nature and to develop a lifelong love for the natural world. When we present the books to kids we can see their curiosity and imagination getting sparked — that's really rewarding," said Hogan in an email to CBC Books(external link).
Scout & The Gumboot Kids(external link) airs in Canada, Australia, South Korea and the U.S.
Hogan and Hungerford are taking the Scout and Daisy books on a tour across Canada with singer Jessie Farrell.
