Award-winning Jamaican-Canadian writer Olive Senior delivers the annual Margaret Laurence Lecture: A Writer's Life from Halifax on May 31, 2019.
Established in 1987, the lecture invites writers to reflect on their life and work and offer their insights on the evolving cultural history of Canadian literature.
Senior has published poetry, fiction and nonfiction over her long career. Her books include Over the roofs of the world, a finalist for the Governor General's Literary Award for poetry, short story collection The Pain Tree, winner of the OCM Bocas Prize, novel Dancing Lessons and picture book Anna Carries Water.
Senior is a juror for the 2019 CBC Poetry Prize alongside Lynn Crosbie and Billy-Ray Belcourt.
Past Margaret Laurence lecturers include Dionne Brand, Guy Gavriel Kay and Tomson Highway.
