Harley Rustad is Toronto-based author, journalist and editor at The Walrus magazine. Originally from Salt Spring Island B.C., his work as a journalist has taken him to Cuba, Nepal and all across Canada. His work has appeared in The Walrus, the Globe and Mail, CNN, and The Guardian, among others.
His book Big Lonely Doug, started out as a magazine article about Canada's second largest Douglas-fir tree and one logger's effort to preserve it. The book examines the effects of the logging industry, the contention surrounding ecotourism, First Nations land and resource rights and the future of Canada's ancient forests.
