Mordecai Richler died in 2001 and was one of Montreal's most iconic novelists. His legacy includes the novels Barney's Version, The Apprenticeship of Duddy Kravitz, Cocksure and St. Urbain's Horseman. He won the Governor General's Literary Award for fiction twice, once in 1968 and again in 1971, and received the Scotiabank Giller Prize in 1997. He also wrote a bestselling picture book, Jacob Two-Two Meets the Hooded Fang, illustrated by Dušan Petričić.
