Omar El Akkad, Cherie Dimaline longlisted for the Sunburst Award for Canadian speculative writing

The longlists for the 2018 Sunburst Award for excellence in Canadian literature of the fantastic have been revealed.
Among the selected books are Canada Reads(external link) 2018 contenders American War by Omar El Akkad for adult fiction and The Marrow Thieves by Cherie Dimaline for young adult fiction.
The Sunburst Award is an annual prize that celebrates Canadian works of speculative fiction. The winners of the adult and young adult categories receive a cash prize of $1,000, while the winner of the short story category will receive $500.
The jury for the adult and young adult categories was comprised of Megan Crewe, Kate Heartfield, Dominik Parisien, Halli Villegas and Heather Wood, while the short story jury included Candas Jane Dorsey, Emily Pohl-Weary and Alexandra Renwick.
The shortlists will be announced in late June, and the winners will be announced in the fall.
