3 emerging writers to contend for $10K RBC Bronwen Wallace Award for short fiction

Three emerging writers have been selected as finalists for the RBC Bronwen Wallace Award. The $10,000 prize, which alternates between poetry and short story each year, recognizes writers under 35 of age who have yet to publish a book.
The prize was created by the Writers' Trust of Canada to help up-and-coming writers make the leap from emerging to established.
The jury panel of Martha Baillie, Omar El Akkad and Ayelet Tsabari read 171 anonymous works of short fiction. The three finalists they chose are:
- Kingdom Come by Sarah Christina Brown
- Adjacent Rooms by Khalida Hassan
- The Ermine Coat by Maria Reva
Brown is writer from New Westminster, B.C. Her story The Seismologist was longlisted for the 2017 CBC Short Story Prize.
Hassan is a graduate of the University of Guelph's creative writing MFA Program. She lives in Toronto.
Reva was born in Ukraine, raised in Vancouver and is now a fiction fellow at the Michener Center for Writers in Austin, Texas.
The winner will be announced at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto on May 28, 2018.
Past winners of the RBC Bronwen Wallace Award include Michael Crummey, Alison Pick and Alissa York.
