Chair describes candidate as 'smart' and 'successful'
Crystal Fach has been selected as the new executive director of the Windsor Pride Community, Education and Resource Centre.
The Lambton College graduate and founder of the school's Gay-Straight Alliance will begin her new role on April 12.
"I believe education is the key to success," said Fach, whose background is in social services. "I want to help people take the next step toward creating safe spaces for LGBTQ people in both the education stream and the community at large."
The organization's board of directors described Fach as an exciting choice.
"Crystal is smart, motivated and connected," explained Windsor Pride chair Greyson Abela. "She has a very successful personal and professional record of advocacy and community activism on LGBTQ and diversity issues."
Jayce Carver, executive director of W.E. Trans Support, said Fach has been in touch to start conversations about how the two organizations can better work together.
"She sees it as important for us to maintain our independence and continue to move forward in our social justice movement and would like to support that, so that's encouraging," said Carver.
Carver said communication and partnerships between the two organizations have been going well so far, but that W.E. Trans Support is on the front lines of its own movement.
"A lot of strength had come to the LGBT community through their movement ... and I think that the same kind of strength needs to come to the trans community but by us leading the way," Carver said.
Fach seems to understand that initiative, said Carver.
Fach will taking over the role from Bob Williams, who was recognized by the group for his years of "devoted service."
