A jury in Saskatoon is hearing the details of an alleged sexual assault involving the owner of a prominent gay bar.
Skipp Anderson is accused of assaulting a young man who had passed out at a party at Anderson's home in 2016.
The alleged victim testified Monday that he awoke to find Anderson sexually assaulting him. Anderson claims that the sex was consensual.
The jury heard how the young man was part of a larger group of friends who all frequented Anderson's club and often socialized with the club owner. The alleged victim had also worked at the club at one point.
On the night in question, the group had gone to a movie at the Galaxy VIP theatre. The young man shared a pitcher of beer and then a double cocktail during the film before deciding to join Anderson and the others at Anderson's house.
There they stripped into trunks and went into the hot tub. The man said his last clear memory was having two rum and Coke drinks in the hot tub, and then waking up hours later in bed with Anderson having intercourse with him.
"I was not in a state to consent," he testified.
He told court that he asked Anderson to stop, and he did.
Under cross-examination by defence lawyer Brad Mitchell, the young man said he did not recall flirting with Anderson, or sitting on his lap in the hot tub and then kissing and stroking him. He conceded that it was possible.
The trial is scheduled to run all week.
