UFO sighting / anomalous love poem

The poem's source of inspiration

"Much of my work emerges from moments of recognition and connection that remain resonant years after the fact, where the details seem to glow from a distance. This poem explores one such occasion of unexpected connection."

First lines

The stars were not what kept us there, or the glowing that appeared
below Cassiopeia, waving veins of light in our direction.
No thick black sky crawling with stars could have kept me
on the roof of the boathouse—a mansion for spiders.
