Award-winning artist Vivek Shraya, who is known for her lyrical, yet searing work on issues of race, gender and equality, has a new book in the works. I'm Afraid of Men will explore the writer's experience with "toxic masculinity" and reflect on its pervasive manifestations as sexual harassment and abuse, homophobia, transphobia and bullying.
Shraya's essay will also "present a hopeful reimagining of masculinity."
The book will be published in fall of 2018 by Penguin Canada.
"With this book I really wanted to explore the lifelong pressures of masculinity I've endured, and the urgent need to reimagine traditional ideas about gender," said Shraya in a press release.
Shraya is an accomplished writer, musician and filmmaker based in Toronto.
Her work includes the poetry collection even this page is white, the novel She of the Mountains and the children's book The Boy & the Bindi.
