Claudia Coutu Radmore has made the 2017 CBC Poetry Prize longlist for Daylight Hangs On.

Claudia Coutu Radmore writes nonfiction, fiction, lyric poetry and Japanese-form poetry. Claudia started catkin press in 2012. She has published two trade collections. Accidentals won the 2011 bpNichol Chapbook Award. Selections from her series sea oyster leaf, sea olive: Fogo were shortlisted for the 2017 Malahat Long Poem Prize, and will be published in 2018.

"Behind/underneath the poem is an image that came to me when someone noted that we know it's summer because daylight hangs on longer. I could see daylight hanging on, clinging, as if to the edge of a cliff, and began wondering why it would do that, why hang on, but in the end, thinking what's worth hanging onto... As daylight is always hanging in/on somewhere in the world, and we all are clinging to whatever light, physical or metaphorical, what we decide to hang on to, and how long to do it, and why, the question is do we have choice… How important is it to cling to a particular memory or to certain images. Is it that something primal makes us know that every little bit of light is true treasure."
